AUDITIONS for Show Me Real

SHOW ME REAL, a new evening length dance theater work (choreography by Clare Cook, text by Gena Oppenheim, original music by Amy Burgess) is seeking 2 female performers. Interested women should be from a musical theater background, skilled in singing and dancing (ballet, jazz and modern) and be interested in working in a collaborative creative process. Rehearsals begin mid-November with performances in NYC, March 23 & 24, 2012. Performance stipend offered.

Show Me Real is a project that has been stirring in my mind for several years now out of a desire to connect the worlds of contemporary dance theater and musical theater through the lens of 1920s glamour, grace, Ziegfeld girls, and “show business” and how it relates to today's culture and performance aesthetic. Plus, they'll be time steps, and singing, and improv, and dancing on the floor, and everything in between.

Audition Times:
Thursday November 10, 7:00-9:00pm
Saturday November 12, 5:00-7:00pm

Email cook.clare.m@gmail.com with your preferred audition date, along with a headshot and resume to reserve your audition spot.

Jack Perry is Alive (and Dating) ....and singing and dancing!

This Fall brings my New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF) debut as a choreographer, and I am quite excited to share the new musical, Jack Perry is Alive (and Dating) with the musical theater world of New York City! A shorter version of this show had a one night stand at Ars Nova in 2009 as part of ANT Fest, and will now be presented as an official selection for NYMF's Next Link Project. The show has developed quite a bit since 2009 with new songs and all new choreography for the wonderful cast of five actors.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Jack Perry is a thirty-something Manhattanite seeking Crate & Barrel domestic bliss, aimless strolls down the aisles of Whole Foods, and neuroses to share with the right man. But despite attempts to set him up and settle him down, Jack finds himself out of luck and running out of time. In this day-in-the-life musical... bar-hop, cab-stop, and heart-flop with Jack as he tracks down the mysterious source of a late-night text message.

Opera Slavica presents Tchaikovsky's EUGENE ONEGIN

OPERA SLAVICA is bringing Grand Opera to Small Spaces in New York. The event kicks off with a contemporary, cutting-edge production of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, Eugene Onegin, in a new chamber arrangement by William Hobbs, featuring the directing talents of Kara-Lynn Vaeni and choreography by Clare Cook, which will take place at the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan.

Dancers Hollis Bartlett and Liz Beres will be the featured as they dance their way through a celebratory (somewhat drug-induced) peasant dance, a 'GREASE' inspired mazurka, an ecossaise fit for the Red Carpet, and more!

Show Me Real Updates

It's hard to believe it's already the middle of August. At the end of May, Show Me Real had it's first work-in-progress showing at Red Bean Studios. The performance was a great kickstarter to the project and since May, much progress has been made behind the scenes to further develop the piece. In June, we had a creative retreat in Fire Island with the dancers and collaborators Gena Oppenheim and Amy Burgess. And since then, Gena, Amy, and I have been meeting to create the sounds and scenes of the piece.

Check out some of the performance pics from the Red Bean Showing and stay tuned for more to come from Show Me Real!

For those of you unfamiliar, hurricane season officially begins on June 1st for the Atlantic region and in Louisiana you hear all about hurricane season over the summer months hoping that no storm comes your way. If a storm does threaten, often times an impromptu 'Hurricane Party' occurs as people gather together to escape the storm, keep each other company, and keep their minds off the danger by drinking alcohol! In grand Louisiana tradition, there's always a reason to celebrate and enjoy life!

The Red Bean, a dance studio and performance space in NYC, operated by Carrie and Jason Brown -  Louisiana natives such as myself, decided to throw a Hurricane Party for the dance world that will combine celebration and new choreography all in one night. A small group of choreographers were invited to create new works over the Spring, and this performance will present their latest work. There will be traditional Louisiana food and drinks and a dance party to follow the performance!

I am presenting an excerpt of my latest piece, SHOW ME REAL, performed by Lori Byargeon, Julia Kelly, and myself. See more about the piece here.

Other choreographers include: Aimee Rials Dance Project, Carlos A. Cruz Velazquez, Elena Demyanenko, Lee Serle, Nicholas Strafaccia, Raw Delivery/Carrie J. Brown, Skeletal Matter/Zoe Blake & Chelsea Bonosky

Come out for a fun evening of dance and give some feedback on the new piece!
